This time of year can offer some of the best sailing and windsurfing conditions. The water is warm and will stay so for a couple more months. Adults learn to sail at Hove Lagoon for just £20
A group of 24 adults spent the last 5 weeks at Hove Lagoon learning to sail and completing their RYA L1 Sailing qualification in partnership with the Active and Healthy Workplace Initiative.

How do we define "Unlimited hire"?

You can hire the equipment as much as you like, for as long as you like subject to the following :

  • We are open - see opening times
  • You are of a suitable ability for the equipment and conditions
  • The conditions are suitable for the equipment and your ability
  • There is know one else wanting the equipment. If there is we operate a fair usage policy which limits your hire to 2 hours.

What qualifications required to hire for each sport?

  • Windsurfing on Hove Lagoon : RYA level 1
  • Windsurfing on the sea : RYA level 2
  • Sailing on Hove Lagoon : RYA level 1
  • Sailing on the sea Hove Lagoon or Brighton Marina RYA level 2
  • Surf Skis / SUP : None , induction from centre staff
  • Water skiing / Wake boarding : None free tuition provided
  • Surfing : None , induction from centre staff

Can I bring a guest?

Yes - up to 8 times. but the same guest can only come down three times.

What do I do when I want to hire equipment on Hove Lagoon?

  • Check hire times.
  • Check in at the office and let us know the equipment you want.
  • We will advise if it is suitable - and off you go! (Bronze members need to pay for hire)

What do I do to hire equipment on the SEA from Hove Lagoon? 

  • Check hire times.
  • Check our sea sailing advice and that we have safety cover by visiting the members website or by calling us.
  • Check with the Duty Manager to see if conditions are suitable for you and what equipment is suitable.
  • Get your kit ready.
  • SIGN OUT on sea sailing board and report to the beach safety officer before going on the water.
  • ON RETURNING  report to beach safety officer and sign in

What do I do to hire some equipment from Brighton Marina?

  • Check hire times.
  • Check our sea sailing advice and that we have safety cover by visiting the members web site or by calling us.
  • Check in with the Duty Manager to confirm the conditions are suitable and your boat is ready.
  • SIGN OUT on sea sailing board.
  • ON RETURNING  report to the Duty Manager and sign in.

What do I need to know about sailing on the sea?

  • You may only sail on the sea when we have safety cover.
  • You must be RYA level 2 or FastFwd standard.
  • You must wear a buoyancy aid. Windsurfers may wear a harness.
  • The Duty Manager has final say on who may sail on the sea.

What ability do I need to be to sail on the sea?

The table below is a guide to the sailing ability required to sail  on the sea in a range of conditions. This table is only a guide and variations in  sea state and wind direction will play a significant factor that can only be assessed on the day. The decision on whether you may sail on the sea rests with the Duty Manger.

What other sea sailing tips can you offer me?

  • Come to the free members clinics
  • You may only sail with in our defined sailing are

Will the safety boat always come and rescue me if I get into difficulty?

We need members to take responsibility for their own safety. Please DO NOT rely on the safety boat as your only alternative means of returning to the beach in case you get into difficulties. We recommend you...

  • carry a safety pack.
  • sign out.
  • tell someone when you are expected back.

Can I hire on the sea in offshore winds?

Hove Lagoon : We will hire on the sea in winds up to force 4 (11 knots) but not in force 4 or above.

Brighton Marina : Yes


What do I need to know about using each centres’ facilities?

Security -  Please keep valuables to a minimum. We can’t take responsibility for any valuables left anywhere in the centre. 

Changing rooms - To allow us to keep the changing rooms as tidy as possible please could you observe the following:-

  • No wet suits should be left overnight.
  • No personal items to be left over night.
  • Club wet suit should be washed and put back in the wet suit store.

Do I have to put the equipment away after my hire session?

Yes - all equipment should be washed and returned to the correct place in the stores for the next members to use. In the event of breakages please take the equipment to the Duty Manger.

  • What time is the last equipment hire?
  • Hove lagoon : 1  1/2  hours before close
  • Brighton Marina : 1 1/2 hours before close

Can I book equipment to hire?

Yes

What if I break some equipment?

WE STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TAKE OUT OUR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE WAIVE. If you do not have this you will be fully liable for the cost of any damage. The waiver cost £60 per year. Please see membership terms and conditions

When are you open for hire?

April 1st - October 31st

If I choose to pay by Standing order why do I have to pay in the winter when you are closed?

Because the cost of membership is for the period we are open. By paying on a monthly basis we are just allowing you to spread the cost of your years membership. The min term of membership is one year, after that you may cancel at any time , you do not have to renew for another year if you pay on a monthly basis.

How do I cancelling my membership?

 

Paying by standing order :

Your contract is for a minimum period of 1 year. Paying by standing order is a way of spreading the annual membership fee. 

Notify us in writing with one month’s notice.

Cancel your standing order with your bank. We cannot cancel your standing order. If you leave the standing order running after you cancel your membership you will not receive a credit. In the event of an error in cancelling the standing order  being made by your bank you will need to contact them.
